It’s official. The “Cheese Grater” has grated its last piece of cheese. Today, Apple confirmed that the Mac Pro is being discontinued with no successor in sight. For the first time in two decades, the most powerful machine in the Mac lineup doesn’t have a place on the Apple Store shelves.
While the Mac Studio has stepped up to claim the throne with the M5 Ultra chip, the death of the Mac Pro feels like the end of an era for the “pro-level” tinkerer. But the Mac Pro isn’t the only fallen soldier in the Apple graveyard.
Let’s pour one out for the most iconic discontinued Apple products that changed the world—before being sent to that great big iCloud in the sky.
1 The Mac Pro (Discontinued: 2026)

This is the big news of the day. The Mac Pro was always the ultimate “flex” for power users. Whether you loved the 2013 “Trash Can” or the 2019 “Cheese Grater,” it represented peak performance. Now, Apple prefers the compact Mac Studio.
2 iPhone SE (Discontinued: 2025)

The iPhone SE was the last refuge for fans of the physical Home button. When Apple pulled it, they also killed off front-facing Touch ID. We are now officially living in a Face ID world.
3 The iPod Classic (Discontinued: 2014)

This is the most nostalgic entry on our list. The iPod Classic changed how we listened to music forever. Its mechanical click wheel is still one of the most satisfying pieces of tech ever designed.
4 The 12-inch MacBook (Discontinued: 2019)

This laptop was impossibly thin and light. It was the first Mac to use the “Butterfly” keyboard, which many users famously disliked. However, as a dedicated travel machine, it was nearly unbeatable.
5 AirPort Routers (Discontinued: 2018)

Apple used to make high-end WiFi routers called AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule. I think I still have one tucked away in the back of a closet. They were sleek, white, and very easy to set up. Unfortunately, Apple decided to leave the networking market to companies like Eero.
6 MagSafe Battery Pack (Discontinued: 2023)

This was a small battery that snapped onto the back of your iPhone using magnets. It was expensive, but the software integration made it feel like magic.
7 The SuperDrive (Discontinued: 2024)

Believe it or not, Apple sold an external CD/DVD drive until quite recently. The SuperDrive hung on for a decade after Macs stopped having disc slots. It finally vanished from the store last year.
